Sonya's Patates Braavos: Edition #37 💌🥔
Week of October 21: what do your emotions mean?
TLDR: emotions, reformer, Halloween
welcome 👋
Hello, brave patates! 🥔 This week, I delivered a 16-page SEO audit for a new client, coached a client in my exponential coaching practice, attended a (secret) interview, and went to 4 work-out classes. Also managed to watch like 5 movies in the evenings and I’m not sure whether to be proud of that or not.
melting pot of recommendations
Speaking of movies, nothing is better to get into the Halloween spirit than the Twilight Saga… I unironically love those movies, cringe and all. The visuals and the music are fantastic. Did you know the franchise grossed over $3 billion?
Speaking of Halloween movies, The Corpse Bride is a timeless classic, and it was all claymation! We are also rewatching all the Harry Potters (while playing Hogwarts Legacy in parallel).
I’m coaching Telfer students in case competition again this year. They have to make an entire PowerPoint in 3 hours complete with strategy and analysis and present it for 20 minutes. I recently had to make a 3-slide PowerPoint for a new project and it took me all day so I have extra newfound respect for my team lol. The students also asked me to judge another case comp and then come to a club event. It’s nice to be involved and to be invited back 🥹
Speaking of coaching, wanted to share with you how our emotions are a compass for our needs. This is just an insight into how we can use our emotions to understand ourselves better.
For example, your anger tells you that a boundary of safety needs to be reinstalled. It asks you: what do you need to defend? It gives you fuel for confrontation, ability to hold your boundaries, breaks you out of apathy, and easily converts to responsibility, pride, discipline.
Your fear warns you there is a threat of losing physical or emotional wholeness. Demands immediate decision and fight/flight/freeze response. There are rational fears (like losing your child in a crowd), primitive fears (fear of snakes), and irrational fears (false assumptions about the future, like speaking in public).
Your sadness informs you that you don’t want to accept reality. It asks you what you want to let go of? It’s an emotion of loss against which we are powerless. It leaves eventually and the body returns to balance.
Your joy and love demand continuation, they are emotions of achievement, satisfaction, and being satiated.
Workout: Reformer classes have become some of my favourites. It’s where you use one machine (quite the contraption) to do all of the exercises. It’s no impact with zero jumping, mainly using resistance training and repetition. I’ll be trying this at-home no-equipment version soon.
Makeup: I’ve been loving the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade, I got it a while ago and barely made a dent in the pot since the pigment is so strong. Crazy good value.
If you got this far, thanks for reading ❤️ cooked something yummy? lmk. went to a cool event or read a fun book? lmk. see you on the flip side 🥔
